Faculty Incentive Grants (FIG)

Faculty Incentive Grant (FIG) Application FY 2009-10 Download Adobe Acrobat Reader here

All full-time, tenured and tenure-track faculty members are eligible to apply for a FIG award. A faculty incentive award is meant to encourage faculty to write and submit comprehensive proposals for grants at least, or in excess of, $30,000, to be submitted to an external funding agency or foundation. Writing proposals for large awards is time consuming and labor intensive. The prospective grant proposal requires a significant amount of time to prepare and is proportionate to the faculty incentive grant which is requested (that is, equal to three credits of faculty time, or two credits or one credit). FIG awards are typically used for summer stipend or for release time to provide faculty the time to engage in proposal development. (Currently, the FIG can be used to pay for proportionate effort during the summer only. However, awards are not meant to provide overload payments, that is, 5th or 4th course, during the academic year.)

Faculty interested in applying for an incentive grant should consult early in the process with their Department Chair. Chairs can assist in identifying key department themes and CNU strategic goals. Faculty can also consult with the director of the Office of Sponsored Programs.
